Neelu is getting married tomorrow (Saturday!!) and her mother hosted the Sangeet for her Thursday night. She asked me to document this and I was more than happy to since this is such a significant part of the Indian wedding tradition. If this is the first time you have heard of a Sangeet, it is essentially a party with the bride's relatives and friends where everyone eat, sing and dance throughout the night to celebrate the upcoming wedding. At the event, the bride had henna artists there to do the mendhi for all the ladies in the house, the family sat around and sang songs for her and there was even a drum with a spoon...see below. I have determined that having a drum with a spoon on it is a very crucial part of hosting a successful Sangeet. :)
