01.26.2008: Nikki's Quincenera Portraits

This past weekend, I was back down in Houston for a couple of meetings as well as a couple of sessions. However, even before the weekend arrived, everyone started cancelling their sessions because of the crazy Houston weather....except for one girl. Meet Nikki! She's going to be my first quincenera shoot and her mom booked us over 2 years prior to the quince! Well, turned out that Saturday was an absolutely amazing day for a session. The shoot started with me going to three different meters around downtown, putting all my change in it, without getting any sort of tickets/receipts for parking. How is it possible that all the meters are out of paper?? When I got to our meeting placed, Nikki and her mom was already sitting patiently waiting for me, and Nikki looked so different from when I first met her at 13! She's really grown up to be a beautiful young lady (and why do I feel so old saying that...besides the fact that I was her age when she was born!) Nikki, thanks for letting me drag you around everywhere downtown and sitting on the gross parking lot ground in your white capris. :) I can't wait for your party!! :)

01.06.2007: Jorge and Serena's Engagement

After Ada and Eugene's Anniversary shoot, I raced downtown to meet up with Jorge and Serena for their e-session. They are getting married in May (but because we will be in California for a wedding - we won't get the chance to be there for Jorge and Serena's wedding). However, I got the next best thing - an e-session with them! So...first thing first. We go around downtown for about 2-3 hours. They bought a ton of clothes, and at one point, Serena and I were clothes twin. (Yes, great fashion minds think alike :oP). So...you know an e-session with me is always an adventure. While we were finishing up the shoot, and walking along the rails, a gentleman yelled out and asked if it was for a wedding. We responded affirmatively, and he offered the interior use of Dean's Credit Clothing (which is not a clothing store at all). Not one to pass up a venue that I've never shot or even been in before, we investigated. This place is sooo cool. There was a strange mannequin wearing a princess dress made out of egg cartons. Also, it looks like Mary Poppins may have misplaced all her umbrellas here. Dean's Credit Clothing (which in actuality is a bar) thanks so much for you guy's hospitality and the mimosas!! Of course, you know we had to do this - check it out below -Jorge and Serena as storefront mannequins. :)

01.06.08: Ada and Eugene Just Because

On Sunday, January 6th (after Julie+Sean's 16+ hour celebration), I woke up bright and early to head alllllllllll the way down to south for Ada and Eugene's JBIO3A (Just Because It's Our 3rd Anniversary) session. Ada told me that she and Eugene gets their picture done once a year to commemorate their wedding. They typically go to a studio - but this year they wanted to try something different! Yikes! It's always pressure when people tell you that before a shoot - but I was soooo flattered that they chose me to document their 3rd year together as husband+wife - especially since I wasn't a referral from anyone she knew - or had a friend who got married who used me, but rather just a photographer search on google or yahoo or the likes. What a great anniversary present to each other :) I'm even more impressed that Eugene doesn't complain about this! (My husband would tell me that we are already married, and we don't need any more pictures than what we already got on our wedding day!! Did you guys go on our new website under engagement? There's a picture of me and my husband POST-wedding because I was able to trick/guilt trip him into it for 15 minutes!) Ada and Eugene, thank you for inviting me into your home and sharing one of your many years together with me. I hope to see you guys once every year on the same day for the next ..let's say 60 or 70 years?

01.05.2008: Julie and Sean

Ceremony: St. Helen's Catholic Church
Reception: Kim Son
Venue Designer: Prestige Events
Wedding Gown: La Sposa

Happy 2008 everyone!! :) We kicked off our 2008 super, super, super EARLY!! (I'm talking waking up at 5 a.m. to get to the bride's getting ready at 7 a.m.) Just so you know, this was not a normal wedding day - unless you're Asian :oP! Julie and Sean had three ceremony plus a reception on their wedding day (16 hours!) - and I admit she wasn't my favorite person when I woke up that morning. But she is a girl after my own heart - yes, it may be hard to believe, but I'm not the only one chasing a double espresso with a red bull. The morning started over at Julie's house for her hair/makeup - then over to her mom's house for the first part of the tea ceremony - followed by a mini reception. Then back to the groom's house for the second part of the tea ceremony - followed by a mini reception. Yes, there was a lot of eating going on. Then off to the church for their ceremony so that Sean can marry lovely Julie after 11 years of dating! So onto the day's notables: Julie and Sean breaking the piggy bank open (see picture below) for parking money. The groom's sister (whose wedding I shot last March) is now pregnant and absolutely glowing!! Congratulations Lien and Phong!! :) Kim Son looking amazing, amazing, amazing. I didn't think it could look like that! Seriously, if you are getting married at Kim Son, you girls/guys need to look up Prestige Events and have them deck out the venue! And finally...my first photobooth! It was such a huge hit! (Brides, if you are thinking about this and don't know if it would go over well with an older crowd - let me just confirm that they LOVED LOVED IT!). Julie and Sean, I hope you guys are having a marvelous time on your well deserved honeymoon!! (~Mariae & Vince)
